The is a national research university based in Singapore. Founded in 1905 as the Straits Settlements and Federated Malay States Government Medical School, NUS is the oldest autonomous university in Singapore. Research
The university's key areas of research include Ageing, Asian Studies, Biomedical Science and Translational Medicine, Finance and Risk Management, Maritime, Materials Science, Smart Nation, and Sustinability and Urban Solutions.
NUS is home to four of Singapore’s six Researce Centers of Excellence – specializing in quantum technologies, cancer, mechanobiology, intelligent and is a partner in a fifth on environmental life sciences and engineering. It also has 33 university-level research institutes and centres and four corporate laboratories. NUS researchers were awarded $956.3m in research funding in 2021.

There is a Memorandum of Understanding between Indiana University and the National University of Singapore. The Kelley School of Business also has an undergraduate exchange agreement with NUS.
